Negative experience: The lady who currently answers the phones is incredibly rude and aggressive. Will not be using this service again nor would I recommend it.

Fantastic experience: I had my wisdom tooth extracted and was pleasantly surprised — I felt no pain at all during the procedure. Dr. Chee was incredibly patient and took the time to answer all my questions, which really helped ease my anxiety. Huge thanks to the entire team for their professionalism and care. I’m one very satisfied client!

Negative experience: Wish we had seen the 1 star reviews before recent appointment, but assumed because we had good experiences with the clinic years ago that this time would be the same. Yeah right. Pretty sure it was a different dentist the last time he was seen. $650 for a 30 minute appointment which included an extraction and a small filling!! My children's father is still in agony 11 days after the extraction and the so called filling is that sharp and rough that it's cutting his tongue when it brushes against the tooth! Far from happy considering $300 for a very small filling, is NOT cheap! Dad did get dry socket, and the receptionist (or dentist, whatever she is, the one with glasses) is so, so rude!!! You charge people an arm and a leg but provide them with mediocre at best care, and terrible customer service. He needed 3.5k worth of work, but we will not be going back there. As it is it's disgusting that we have to pay another dentist to fix the rough filling! Stay away from this place.

Negative experience: The asian lady who answers the phone is horribly rude, ive decided to take my services else where as her dehumanizing attitude had put me off altogether, was supporting a special needs patient and she had absolutely no heart..

Fantastic experience: I went to smile dental palmerston north today my first visit ever visit for a quote and x ray of my front tooth which had split in two places and decayed...Dr Manish was very professional and made me feel really relaxed he was very caring and him and his assistant dhruti worked very well as a team...Dr Manish explained that he could drill away all the decay and build a front tooth with composite fillings and drilling...u believable result after about 50 mins pain free with an injection the tooth looks perfect smooth and natural white...Dr Manish had a great sense of humour and eased any anxiety with laughter..the price was very affordable and was given a quote before he started....I highly recommend smile dental palmerston north and Dr Manish and team as a very professional caring and happy hands-on environment..I now have the most perfect two front teeth and can smile with confidence ..5 gold star rating from me...if u are thinking about going to a dentist ..smile dental is the one 24 Victoria st palmerston north..just inside by the city doctors and next to the pharmacy ..cheers Dr Manish it was a great experience

Fantastic experience: Excellent service and had to have a large back tooth removed but half of it had gone and they managed to get the whole tooth out in one go and painlessly. Recommend to all.

Got an awesome treatment from Dr Manish, he has always been very kind and professional to me, even when I was going through my episodes of anxiety during my teeth clean procedure. My partner visits the same branch, I have recommended my friend as well, all of them have always shared good reviews. I often see people being not very polite to the staff, I’d say everyone at the Smile Dental is doing their best, it is hard to get dentists’ appointment in Palmy so I would encourage them to be nice to staff.

Positive experience: I don't remember the name of the dentist I last spoke to at Smile in Palmerston North, but needed to share how professional and honest he was. He was very considerate of my issue and advised on the best possible solution that had my smile fixed in a matter of hours which initially would have taken 2 weeks.

Negative experience: Had a root filling done a while ago, the dentist made the gap between two of my molars too big (not even sure why he did that) now I get food stuck in the gap all the time, brushing my teeth doesn’t even help. The whole procedure + radiograph was $450 Not going back again

Negative experience: My partner got his tooth pulled out here, he has been finding tooth debris in his gum for weeks now. Highly unsatisfied, the dentist isn’t cheap, and he is still having a bleeding gum because of the bits of tooth that were still left in his gum. Went back, they said ‘that’s normal’ however when I’ve spoken to other dentists, they have confirmed that it is not normal. There should not still be parts of his tooth left in his gum. I’d like a refund.

Fantastic experience: Been there twice, each time to have a wisdom tooth extracted. They were running a little late but that's because they seem so popular and it's no wonder. The staff I've encountered were really friendly and helpful and Dr Lam pulled both teeth with minimal fuss. During my last appointment, I was waiting for him to make a start pulling on the tooth and he was already finished! I waited longer for the numbing stuff to settle in than what it took him to pull the tooth! It was over and done with and I was on my way. They answer email queries really quickly and make it easy to get an appointment.

Negative experience: Was not going to do review but got email and txt to do it.I went in for a broken side piece off my top wisdom tooth.Had injection but within five seconds drilling started and i had not gone numb yet and i never did and the piece they tighten around tooth was digging into my gum i felt that but was brave enough to just take it.Was told tooth could not be saved so had to be extracted and told will be easy.Had couple more quick injections and again no time to go numb.I felt every bit of my tooth being twisted and cracking and i was going ouch ouch arrrgh as the pain was awful.No stopping just kept going blood gushing down my throat.After it was out i was in a state and sat forward and said i feel like want to be sick noboby spoke just silence.Then i was told to lay back breath through nose and place legs up and it did help.After whole thing i asked why it hurt so bad and was told because it stuck in the gum firm.Never have i felt extreme pain like that from a tooth extraction it really felt as though zero of the injection met its mark and normally you feel numb even a hour after you leave a dental surgery and i really feel if the area had been numb id have felt nothing.Never mind is what it is

Negative experience: Worst Dentist EVER!!! Thats if you can even call the guy a dentist because I have serious doubts! I highly recommend you stay away from this mickey mouse outfit especially palmerston north! SHOCKING TREATMENT! Extracting teeth without xrays-woeful administration of anesthetic,dirty rooms to name a few.You've been warned.I stopped half way through extractions& got a refund

Negative experience: DO NOT RECOMMEND. After months of rescheduling for my wisdom tooth extraction appointment at Smile Dental as they didn’t have dentists, I was disappointed by the poor care I received. I was physically shaking the entire procedure and I felt no empathy for obvious discomfort and terror I was experiencing. The dentist didn't introduce themselves to me, didn’t make me feel comfortable or reassured me of what they were doing, the procedure felt rushed and they failed to provide adequate post-operative instructions. They gave me a post extraction to do list however i felt didn’t give proper care advice, with one of the suggestions being to take ibuprofen, which I later found you should not take with antibiotics. Now day 3 I have been told i have dry socket and gained an infection. To make matters worse, when I sought help after the procedure, Smile Dental had no dentists available and did not offer pain relief, advice or assistance with what I could do while I wait. Thankfully, I found better care elsewhere. (Carpenters dental Palmerston north) The receptionist was amazing, new dentist was attentive, ensured my comfort, and thoroughly explained each step of the process. Overall, my experience at Smile Dental was disheartening. They must prioritise patient comfort, communication, and better post-operative care to prevent others from enduring similar hardships. I will not be recommending smile dental in future.

Fantastic experience: I'm a product of 'The Murder House' in the 60s - ie; school dental nurses!! Anxiety of dentists well into my late 60s, had to get some work done. Dr Sam & his assistant I highly recommend, it was my best EVER experience and I actually left there smiling Thank you so much, Gaye

Negative experience: Felt like I was an inconvenience to them all. No introductions, staff barely spoke, no one could even crack a smile (they all looked miserable) My free check up was literally 1 minute long. I was asked one question, I was given 3 different “guesstimates” for the cost of my scale and polish which didn’t even last 10 minutes and they settled at $200 somehow. Paid and walked out, will not go back

Negative experience: Had a denture made from the white dentist here and it was garbage, couldnt fit in my mouth, tooth was too small , didnt get to to choose the colour. Had to wait 3 months for it to be done. Dont waste your time with this place

Negative experience: There is no parking so leave early and expect a walk to get there. They advertise as an affordable dentist but they are not affordable with prices for a cleaning or x-ray twice what I was paying at my old dentist in a larger city. I had multiple appointments booked to complete work I needed and each one was cancelled and rescheduled often at inopurtune times being told if I didn't take this time I would have to wait months for another appointment. The dentist was quite impatient and made me feel awful for needing work done and the admin staff weren't much friendlier. On my second visit there was noone at the front desk. I arrived 15 minutes before my appointment and as per the sign rang the bell for the unattended desk and noone came 5 minutes later I rang again, still no one, I waited another 5 minutes minutes rang the bell again still noone. This went on every 5 minutes. 30 minutes past my appointment time before anyone bothered to come out despite me using the bell constantly and yes they heard it because I could hear them in the hall and opening and closing doors. Honestly a terrible dentist do not reccomend

I was extremely nervous going in to the appointment and David was very empathetic and explained everything he was going to do in detail. My pain was kept to an absolute minimum and 3 days on from 4 extractions I still have no pain. I highly recommend David and his team. Thank you David

Negative experience: Phoned the 0800 provided from the list that Mid central DHB provide all parents that have kids starting year 9. Wasn't at all helpful for a 1st time doing this enrolment...finding a dentist for our child

Fantastic experience: My experience at Smilecity was fantastic. Of being a person who hasn't been to the dentist in a " very" long time they made me feel very relaxed. I would not hesitate going back there..

Positive experience: Smile dental were amazing to visit. Love that they offer a free exam but they also spent a lot of time discussing treatment options. As a high anxiety patient, they were able to build confidence for me to return for the treatment plan. Only downside I would mention is that no form of sedation (other than local anaesthetic) is offered however they did discuss in length why that particular practice does not support it. It would be 5 stars if sedation for wisdom tooth extraction was offered.

Negative experience: Booked me in quickly so that was good. It was difficult to understand the staff and had to wait a while in the waiting room. I didn't feel like I got my money's worth ($250) for their dental hygiene appointment as it was really rushed and way more painful than my regular place.

Negative experience: They booked me in and cancelled my original appointment becayse dentist was away. So I come to my new appointment at 4:25, the time they said I was booked for. I wait till 4:46. No signs of calling me in, didnt let me know why there was a hold up. I had another appointment at 5:30. So I left. Felt very disrespected and like my time was wasted. I have booked in with another dentist. Very unprofessional to just leave me waiting so long without a heads up as to why.

Fantastic experience: I am new to Palmerston North so wasn't sure how my first visit was going to go. Trying to find a Dentist is like trying to find a hair dresser or a beautician you can trust when you move to a new city. This 5 star review was for my first experience at Smile Dental and it is for my Dentist Emad Al Lawati. He was so lovely, he explained everything he was doing, made sure I was comfortable and after every step advised the cost and what he was going to do next. He doesn't strike me to be a money hungry dentist at all and when showing me my x-rays, explained everything in full. He genuinely seems concerned for his patients and for my great experience, I will be making this my regular Dentist. Thank you Emad :)

( I am not sure of his name ) Tooth pulled yesterday, fantastic job literally 5 mins I was out - never been in and out of a dentist so freaking fast.... Tell you what - instant relief - I could hear again !!! As soon as I noticed a change ( which was when I felt a pull - note i thought was just one corner of the tooth, but in fact it was the whole tooth.. that is when I realized, just how much that tooth was making me sick - bit rough today, but to be honest - Feeling amazing day 1. I have had a few services by smile dental Palmerston. So far no issues, great with my insurance, great with services and supports. Touch pricey - but worth it ! Thank you - highly recommend !!

They made me feel super comfortable and relaxed the whole time. They are so funny but also professional together & great to talk to. Receptionist was super helpful at the end of my treatment. Explained everything in detail along the journey, asking how I was feeling during procedure, sitting down with me and explaining the digital xray results and sharing with me what is present and what might be required if procedure were not successful due to my predicament, also providing various options available to me should any of the above occur and not work out. I would not hesitate in recommending Dr Wei Chen Teh for any dental work. She is very professional and extremely competent with her skills. Also a very pleasant assistant working along side her. ***************************************************************** Recently saw Dr Khoo for an extraction, he was very reassuring by explaining in great detail what to expect and what possibilities might occur in worse case scenarios. He was very courteous, thorough, and pleasant person throughout the consultation. No hesitation in recommending him if you're looking for a competent skilled professional. ***************************************************************** Again had an appointment with Dr Emad Al Lawati, this time for a teeth cleansing and general chat about condition of my teeth and maintenance and recommendations with how to proceed going forward. I find Dr Emad to be very kind,courteous and extremely professional and feel very comfortable having him as my regular Dentist. You truly will be in the best of hands should you be on the lookout for a Dentist that will make you feel at ease!. Also found the Lady Dental Assistant to be warm and pleasant and again attention to detail paying close attention to me as a patient. ****************************************************************** I again recently on yearly checkup saw Dr Emad for a Free examination, as always very pleasant and very helpful and professional.

Fantastic experience: I hadn't been to a dentist for as long as I can remember. Like most people, the drill and the injections absolutely terrified me, hence the not wanting to ever step inside a dentist's office. I desperately needed work done on my teeth, and not being able to eat properly was my biggest challenge. I made a appointment in Feb 2022, from there began my journey of teeth removal in preparation for my top denture and a plate for the bottom. Dr Maria Chen is an absolute god send and after nine months I finally received my new teeth. Dr Chen guided me throughout the whole experience, always reassuring me that the end product would make such a difference. I couldn't be more happier with my new teeth and my new smile. I'd definitely recommend Smile Dental and of course the wonderful Dr Maria Chen.

Fantastic experience: Dropped an email around 10.30pm and got an early morning appointment for tooth extraction. Very professionally done. Took the dentist 5mins and my tooth was out. And was advised of further treatment which needs to be done.Amazing staff.

Negative experience: Appointment was at 4:30pm, get told there's a 15min wait. 5pm ticks over still nothing and a lady that just walked in gets seen straight away. Left at 5:10pm and then they call us at 5:20pm saying the dentist was having her break... They close at 6pm might I add. Not everyone has 50mins to waste away like that. If they can't be organized enough to be on time at least give better updates on wait time and do some customer service work. Only went here because we heard they were good, sadly will never find that out.

Fantastic experience: Dr Kevin Koay completed surgery and extraction for me yesterday. It was a long and difficult procedure that he completed with full care and with least amount of pain possible. He explained and encouraged all the way through. He did say to expect it to be painful for a length of time. I woke this morning to no pain at all. I am so grateful for his skill. Thank you. I highly recommend this dentist.

Positive experience: I personally prefer “smile dental” over many other dental facilities in Palmerston as compared to rest, the chargers are relatively low. I always made sure my family and I travel abroad to get all our dental needs done as already in NZ dentist charges are absolutely high, sometimes absurd and inconvenient to general public. But with the borders being closed this haven’t been possible. Hence I am happy that I found Smile dental. Staff was absolutely helpful, we had no delays/ staying in lines. Doctor was great. Empathetic. Overall it was a good experience.

Fantastic experience: This was my best ever experience of going to a dentist. They were so kind and caring and understanding of my situation meaning trauma issues and pain. The dentist did an amazing job and everything was explained to me really well. I cannot recommend highly enough this place, their kindness is gold star. Positive experience: This is my second review, Dr kevin Palmerston North did a full top teeth extraction and arranged dentures. I have always HATED dentist, he has changed that. He explained every step of the procedure, did it promptly and painlessly, follow up has been incredible I would recommend any dentist sooks, to go there INCRDEDIBLE

Fantastic experience: Currently visiting from Australia with an existing dental condition. I booked in an emergency same day appointment earlier this week as my condition wasn’t improving. I saw Dr. Emad and he was such a nice, genuinely caring person. He discussed thoroughly my dental issue, waited patiently while I contacted my dentist in Australia to have an X-Ray emailed through, and then came up with a proper care plan for me to recover and manage the pain. To top it off he called me (on my Australian number!) a few days later to ask me how I was going and make sure I wasn’t in too much discomfort. I’m happy to say I’m doing a lot better now and I have so much gratitude to Dr. Emad for how he took care of me. I can’t recommend these guys highly enough for the level of care they provide!

Fantastic experience: Went in for a filling repair and several new fillings, plus a descaling, all done over 3 separate sessions. My dentist ensured I had adequate pain relief throughout and was happy to pause if I needed a break. I left feeling well looked after and very happy with the results of the work done. My faith in dentists has been restored :)

I have had the very best dental experience at Smile Dental in Palmerston North. They are all unfailingly friendly, kind, professional, and helpful. If you’ve a fear of dentists, I strongly recommend trying Smile - Dr Kevin especially - you’ll be glad you did.

Fantastic experience: I had a great experience here with Dr Kevin. Had a few appointments for filling, cleaning, and wisdom tooth extraction, and every session went smoothly. To be honest I've been scared to do the adult thing and go to the dentist myself, but coming here has really been a good experience. Side note, yeah dental procedures always cost something, they're never cheap, but you also get what you pay for. And I think the quality of service that I got was amazing.

Fantastic experience: Fabulous staff! They were patient with my son and made our experience as easy and stress free as possible. They even set up a programme for my 4 year old to watch to keep him entertained throughout the appointment and provided so much helpful information regarding his tooth injury.

Positive experience: Staff are friendly and professional. Service is high quality and WINZ quotes are available. Did get messed around a bit at the start and had to keep getting my consult rebooked until I asked for a different dentist, but afterwards everything has gone smoothly.

He has lifted my oral health to a higher level and I would not go to anyone else for my dental hygiene appointments. He is kind, calm and does a thorough job. He ensures that the whole process is painless. I have received very positive comments from my periodontist on the results of his work. He is highly recommended.

Fantastic experience: I am quite happy with my experience at this Smile Dental clinic so far. I just had one filling done and all teeth cleaning as well. From the reception on site and on phone, to the dentist and auxiliary, they created a welcoming and comfortable environment for the customer. Easy and flexible with making appointments. Dr. Yee Haow Khoo is sophisticated in giving dental care and treatment and considerate of the patient's needs and feelings too. I will definitely go there again to have more treatment!

Fantastic experience: Smile Dental is highly recommended! I used to go there when I was living in Auckland but the Palmerston North branch is just as good! Not only they were able to find a slot in for me within 3 hours but Kevin was just amazing! Very stress-free treatment and the advice was given accordingly, thorough explanation afterwards, the whole experience made dental visits not so scary anymore - say byebye to dentophobia :)

Fantastic experience: After 74 years I’ve finally found the most gentle dentist in Dr Emad and his caring assistant Nur, at Smile Dental Palmerston North. Root canals are the worst procedure for me, but every step of the 3 appointments Dr Emad was informative and caring - checking if I flinched that I was ok and not in pain. I highly recommend them to anyone, especially if you are really scared of going to the dentist.

Fantastic experience: I had 3 visits within a week for various treatments and at each visit I was treated really well. Dr Maria and her assistant were very efficient and professional during my treatment The atmosphere in the treatment room was relaxed and enhanced by the large screen TV. Dr Maria explained every stage of the treatment thoroughly and the use of the large screen TV to show my xrays and explain dental hygiene was amazing. I have been to the dentist many times and wouldn't have a clue want they were doing but I know exactly what I had done. We all know that it can be expensive going to the dentist, for great service and patient care and education, I feel I got my moneys worth and my teeth feel great. Fantastic experience: First of all I managed to get an appointment within 2 hours on a sunday. Friendly service, treatment plan well explained,both physical and financial. After care very well set out. Cost was not exorbitant. All in all a good experience for an extraction. Highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: The best experience I have had as an adult at a dentist Maria throughly explained everything before starting including possible costs and once she knew what we were dealing with explained again with X-rays on the big screen in front of me and additional supporting information then at my request forward the details and X-rays to me via email. I highly recommend Smile dental as a full package! Cost was reasonable in comparison to others in town if not better.
