Fantastic experience: I'm currently traveling through New Zealand and recently had a great experience at Dr. Grayson's dental clinic. I was able to get an appointment very quickly and the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming.

Fantastic experience: My partner Pam & I have both gone to the Symonds St Dental Centre for years and after our experiences with other dentists in Auckand, can honestly say that Karl and Andy are the BEST we have ever had the good fortune to have dealt with. They are absolute magicians when it comes to dental problems. All the staff are so pleasant and professional to deal with.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been coming to this dental clinic for five years. They’ve helped me get my gum disease under control. They take the time to explain what I need and help me understand my options. They also respect my choices, like not wanting extractions or orthodontic treatment. I’ve also learned how to take better care of my teeth thanks to them. They introduced me to using floss and different sizes of interdental brushes, which have helped me clean plaque and food residue more effectively. I truly feel a sense of professionalism and reliability from the dentists and hygienists I’ve met here. I trust them and wish them all the best.

Fantastic experience: My teeth are bad. I knew they were bad because I never go to the dentist. Heather took on the job of giving them a clean and she did an amazing job. She gave me tons of advice and I felt like she was interested in getting my health sorted not just doing the job. She deserves a raise. If I wasn't from Wellington I'd make this place my go to.

Fantastic experience: Most of us do almost anything to avoid the dentist. However the folk at Symonds Street Dental provide a friendly and professional service…. It’s a long time since i had a filling which i put down to Andy (and his predecessor John Bull) great work and the awesome dental hygienist - Bronwyn. Not only does Bronwyn provide excellent dental care but stimulating thoughtful conversation… tho you dont always get the right of reply when someone has their hands in your mouth. Highly recommended to take the pain out of your teeth.

Fantastic experience: Had a visit with Andy yesterday for 4 fillings, I’ve been terrified of going to a dentist for years but Andy made me comfortable and at ease, Woke up this morning and for the first time in years I could drink a hot coffee without any pain so super happy about that feel like a whole new person. Feels weird saying but I can’t wait to go back to get the rest done, Would highly reccomended if your after some dental work these guys do an amazing job!!!!

Positive experience: [EDIT] I'm updating this review - on the same day as I was calling, got contacted by the doctor in the evening and he talked through the different options, prices and was really helpful. I still think the reception should have dealt with this issue differently, so I'm changing the review from 1 star to 4 stars. The doctors in the clinic seem nice and professional, I wanted to remove a tooth and they could easily do that as I was asking, but then was recommended against that as the tooth wasn't the the cause of the issue I was having. [/EDIT] I was going to the clinic for regular check ups and problems, it was fine, the doctor seemed nice. Then today I called them to inquire how much a retainer would cost - a simple question nobody in the clinic wanted to answer while trying to insist that for that an appointment is required. I wasn't asking to examine me, to understand an issue or fix the alignment of the teeth. A simple procedure - do an impression kit, send it out to the lab and receive the retainers. And no, they can't provide a price for that. Paying 150$ just to learn a price for a retainer - that's appalling service and customer treatment.

Fantastic experience: I recently had porcelain veneers done by Karl, my dentist, and I couldn't be happier with the results! From start to finish, Karl was professional, knowledgeable, and made me feel comfortable throughout the entire process. The veneers look absolutely amazing and have completely transformed my smile. I’ve received so many compliments, and I feel more confident than ever. If you're considering veneers, I highly recommend Karl. His expertise and attention to detail truly make a difference! Fantastic experience: Very experienced team. My previous dentist had retired and I was doing my research to find a new one. I settled on this practice 4 year ago and I did not regret it. I also liked how I could discuss my problems with the specialist and got comprehensive answers, some other dentists I saw elsewhere made me feel like I'm wasting their time by asking questions about my dental health, here I got all the attehntion and information I wanted.

Fantastic experience: Karl, I have been going to you and your team for many years and the work done by all of you is fantastic from hygienist's too emergency appointments with Andrew but I must say i am utterly wrapped with my new front bridge. I have been tolerating the aesthetic decline for many years but thanks for pushing to get this fixed.....wow!

Negative experience: Went for a cleaning and the lady was really rough and worked really fast. It felt like she didn’t want to be at work at all. I left the clinic with a horrible blood taste in my mouth and was told that I’m wasting my time using a Colgate electric toothbrush and should spend $200 on an Oral B electric toothbrush

Fantastic experience: I had not had dental treatment for many years but was faced with needing one urgently. I called and spoke with such a kind and understanding nurse called Chelsea, who listened to everything I told her about my fear of going to a dentist but I had a dental problem that needed urgent attention. She was so reassuring and booked my appointment for the next morning. When I arrived I was greeted by the dentist Karl Johnston and he assured me all would be well. I could not believe how painless my treatment was. He briefed me on every step of my procedure. I came out of the appointment knowing I would go back for any further needed dental work in the future. So for anyone who was as frightened as I was I would recommend Symond Street Dental Centre, they are amazing.

Negative experience: I've been a patient at Symonds Street Dental Centre for some time now and have generally had good experiences. However, after a recent hygienist visit, I noticed the wire on my lower jaw had come loose. When I returned for an examination, I was quoted $300 to reattach it. Considering the issue arose shortly after my appointment, I was disappointed with the unexpected charge and lack of immediate resolution. I reached out via email to discuss the matter but haven't received a response yet. I hope the clinic addresses concerns like these more proactively in the future. Update: I initially posted a review expressing my concerns about my experience at Symonds Street Dental Centre. Unfortunately, I am further disappointed with their subsequent response to my issues. Instead of providing a satisfactory and constructive solution, I felt that the situation was misconstrued. Due to the lack of resolution and my ongoing concerns, I have escalated the matter to the Dental Council, New Zealand Dental Association (NZDA) and Health and Disability Commissioner (HDC) for further investigation. It is essential for patients to have trust and confidence in their dental providers, and my experience has unfortunately shaken that trust.

Fantastic experience: Great service, For 2 years I could not eat on the left side of my mouth without feeling pain and then finally last night half my tooth fell out and Karl Johnston did an amazing job and completely refilled the hole and now you can't even tell there was only half a tooth. Fantastic experience: It so happened that I’ve been visiting several different dentists in the last couple of days, so I had a chance to compare… Despite this place being as close to perfect in my experience, I have almost given it only four stars for the following reasons: - The receptionist lady may want to smile more. Don’t get me wrong: she does her job well, but with such a martyr-kind look on her face! Makes me to be sorry for adding my requests on top of her troubles - Not all oral hygienists there are created equal: my advice is to be careful when making an appointment. - They are not open after hours or on weekends even for an extra fee. However, the small team was prepared to stay past their usual closing time for me once the severity of my condition became apparent. Apart from the above – it is my favorite dental practice! Doctors are highly trained and openly admit to their respective weak areas not trying to be “can do it all” kind of arrogant “specialists”. Team of nurses is an exceptionally helpful and friendly bunch. It’s really sad that historically they don’t get much credit for the work they do: I’d like to change that – Thank you all very, very much! The online appointment booking system this practice uses is a golden! When I realized I’m going to need an urgent appointment with the dentist to be booked at 3.30 am on Sunday, there was no need to call anyone – I just did it myself online and saw my dentist 5 hours later! The system sends you confirmation of the booking made and follows up with the reminders. Fantastic system, I wish other practices were adopting it too and more widely. The well though-after system of follow-up emails and TXTs is a very nice addition to the service you receive in-house. Makes you feel valued and remembered. From the money point of view, it is not cheap, but in my experience the quality of products they use and the professionalism with which they are applied worth, literally in this case, “every single penny”! I was amazed and bewildered by the amount, quality of the equipment that was needed for my appointment along with the skill level of staff in using it! I must have gone too long without seeing a dentist, but it looks to me like a space age dentistry compared to what I remember from my last visit to the dentist! Once again, I’d like to highlight the professionalism not only of dentists, but nurses and dental hygienists alike. The whole practice works as a team, with excellent and fast communication between members, immediate transfer of orders, and prescriptions, and requests. Questions answered patiently, clearly and thoroughly ensuring understanding is achieved before moving on to the next point. So unlike other practices when you always feel rushed. All-and-all this is by far my favorite place (so far) to go in case of dental problems. Can’t possibly rate this place any higher! A+++

Fantastic experience: You’d be hard pressed to find someone who enjoys going to the dentist. But I can’t recommend Symonds St Dental enough. From the friendly welcome and fantastic work of the hygienists, to the amazing dental work by Dr Andy Grayson it’s a throughly painless experience. I’ve been to a few dentists around the world and this by far the best practice and Andy is the best dentist I have ever had work from.

I initially came here for a second opinion after I had been to another dentist who quoted me some really high prices for work that in the end wouldn't have been necessary. Dr. Andrew Grayson is an amazing and experienced dentist who looked at what I needed to have done and offered honest advice along with an effective and affordable solution.

Fantastic experience: I am so impressed by the care and professional knowledge and expertise of the dentist Andy and his nurses. I went in expecting to pay for two crowns. Andy examined thoroughly and advised me of the lack of necessity, and treated me expertly at a tenth of the cost. He has fixed broken teeth, an abscess and a faulty implant. I couldn't recommend him and his compassionate staff more highly.

Fantastic experience: Dr Grayson and his team provide the best dental care I have ever experienced. As a previous Dental assistant myself, I cannot speak highly enough of the treatment and care they provide. The receptionists are accomodating, friendly, and quick to respnd to any queries. Dr Grayson and the Hygenist Kirsty both put any worries at ease, are gentle, and provide an educational/informative experience. Very happy to have found this office.

Fantastic experience: I’m 24 years old and iv always been afraid of the dentist. It wasn’t so bad when I was younger as I would have my parents take me in. As an adult iv been reluctant to go see a dentist just out of fear, but when I contacted symond street dental and told them how I was feeling, they showed patience and kindness and really made me feel a lot better about the whole thing. Fantastic experience: I recently moved to Auckland and was very nervous about finding a new dentist. However, Dr Karl was just amazing when I visited for treatment last week. He was very kind and put me at ease straight away. He talked me through the procedure as he was doing it so i could understand what was happening in my mouth. I needed a local anesthetic and it was truly pain free. He ensured I was comfortable the whole time. Music playing while I was in the chair was also a lovely touch to help me relax. Fantastic experience: Very good clinic, everything is organazed for you: clickable link for follow up appointments (so you could book quicker) is sent to you via text message, lovely music is played during your treatment, beautiful rooms :) I had fillings done by Dr. Karl, and he was the most pleasant dentist I've ever had: he was explaining and giving me updates on how we were going, before starting doing something different he would always tell me what's coming next. Fantastic experience: Meg, Karl and Tina were all delightful to encounter. A very friendly and fully functioning team, that clearly enjoyed and respected working alongside one another. Meg had a friendly and welcoming manner, that showed genuine interest in you as a patient and individual, with Karl meticulously surveying the factual state of your teeth, translating dentistry language and offering all treatment options available, stating the benefits and draw backs of each. There was no “telling off”, freedom of choice and even room for positive feedback about your current tooth care. They have five stars for a reason and I would highly endorse their service from start to finish.

Fantastic experience: I was at the end of my New Zealand trip. After New Zealand we had planned to travel for four weeks in the Philippines. I had an infection on my tooth where I had had a root canal treatment. Karl Johnston the dentist saved my holidays with a quick and good treatment. He is a very competent dentist and I recommend him to everyone.

Fantastic experience: Having just arrived in Auckland for a 4-week holiday in the beautiful New Zealand I needed an emergency treatment. The dentist Andrew really took the time to go through the options and its implications. A sound and joint decision making process! And practice manager Cathie is just the best. Most involved practice manager I’ve ever met.

Andy was professional and highly competent while at the same time being informative, friendly and approachable without being patronising. Highly recommended. UPDATE: I'm sure the majority of us have, at one time or another, booked in with a dental hygienist and received a cursory pick and a prod with a tepid turn of the polisher to terminate a generally unfulfilling visit - not so with Vicky at Symonds St Dental who gets a huge shoutout! The consummate professional - every step explained in detail and meticulous care and attention paid to my precious pearls. Every single tooth received some well earned expert attention and they now feel and look fantastic. A big shoutout also goes to Cathie the practice manager - thanks for the smooth operation and the ever warm welcome.

Fantastic experience: Thank you doctor Andrew for everything. I came with urgent issue of the massive toothache and infection, I feel a lot better after the treatment and the medicine. He explains really well even I couldn’t understand but I feel less nervous about the treatment. I can feel my infection is getting better and better. 10/10 for dr. Andrew also for the pain free and fast treatment. Recommend to everyone who is hesitating to treat their toothaches.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Karl Johnston and his team are absolutely amazing! I am extremely scared of going to the dentist, but the whole team made me feel comfortable and at ease - right from the receptionist, the nurse, and the doctor. I had to remove 2 teeth and I was literally shaking in the chair. The nurse, Kathryn, held my hand and comforted me. There was music playing in the room, so I could listen to something else other than the dental equipment. Dr Karl explained the whole procedure, so I knew what to expect and there were no surprises. I didn't experience any pain during the procedure and after. I kept expecting my cheek to swell up and for throbbing pain to kick in, but NOTHING of that sort happened. Fantastic experience: I've always been very nervous about visiting the dentist, so when Andy at Symonds Street Dental Centre came highly recommended by a good friend I decided to give him a try. That was 13 years ago and I'm still a regular. The customer service is excellent, treatment options are explained clearly so you know the cost/plan in advance, and most importantly, no nerves. Due to a sporting injury, I needed implant replacements for two teeth. These were very tricky implants to get right (shape, colour etc.) However, Andy was determined to deliver the absolute best result for me and I now have a better smile than ever before. Additionally, Cathie (Chief Organiser) went above and beyond to ensure the whole procedure would fit into my very difficult time-frame. I cannot say enough for them and will never go anywhere else. Brilliant!

Fantastic experience: The dentist was all right. But the reception lady was awful. I was try to ask some questions about my previous treatment which has been done few weeks ago. But the lady could not answer it, and won't let me talk to the dentist unless I pay for another visit. Seriously, I could not ask any more questions which related to the service I already paid for, unless I pay again? Wow, very good at doing a business. ---------The dentist called back, had a nice talk, only took few mins to answer my questions, over all they are still good oral care practitioner.

Fantastic experience: I have been going to see Andy Grayson and his team since stumbling in one Tuesday morning with a massive tooth ache over 2 years ago. I was looked after that time and every time since and have found them to be trustworthy, skilled, friendly and painless to deal with. And what's more the price has been reasonable as well! Going to the dentist now does not hold the fear it used to. I've even had a few sessions with the hygenist and my teeth have never looked better. Keep up the good work guys - I'm a regular now!
