Gentle Dental Centre

Negative experience: Trying to get orthodontia done here was a nightmare. I tried for 6 months to get treatment started for my daughter. The person with the right expertise was never present and we repeatedly had to make another appointment, weeks out, to talk to someone who knew what to do with my daughter’s teeth. She needed surgery so a tooth could be pulled into place. The surgeon they finally sent us gave us totally incorrect information when we met him, then called later saying she’d actually need to go under general anesthesia adding an extra $5000 to our bill. We wasted 6 months, about $450, and several afternoons before getting completely fed up, cutting our losses, and moving on. They COULD have told us that they only offered basic tooth straightening and that they were not capable of handling more complex orthodontia, instead they strung us along for months. Avoid them like the plague.

Fantastic experience: Great dentist, managed to get an appointment quickly and the repairs to my tooth all done in one sitting - even on a Saturday.

Fantastic experience: Do u need a tooth removed? Do u need all your teeth removed and replaced?  For either job I highly recommend the Gentle Dental Centre. I required all my teeth replaced with dentures with a gap of two years between upper and lower. During this time there was a high rate of decay on the lower teeth . I was sure this would make lining my upper and lower dentures highly improbable. The end result was perfection. I have my smile and confidence back thanks to Sam and his whole team. From Jess on reception saving me at the last minute to Jennie and her team who ran sedation, they were both gentle and professional, to the point I was able to garden the next morning for 4 hours! And of course Lezay and Sam, Lezay was so gentle and understanding and was vital to getting me through the process, a very professional assistant to Sam. Sam, he does magic. His knowledge and use of latest technology was very reassuring. He set me at ease immediately for the big job.  Thank you Sam. I highly recommend Gentle Dental Centre for any dental care required. Fantastic experience: Truly the best dentists I have come across in my life. My anxiety was eased the moment I started coming here, as everyone I interacted with were gentle (classic) and non-judgmental (seemingly rare find when it comes to dentists). I had the dreaded wisdom teeth extraction but it was the most straightforward process and healing was a breeze. It was particularly helpful that the procedure was explained in-depth. If you have a fear of dentists and all things teeth-related, this is the best place to come! As another review said, it was because of Gentle Dental that I finally started flossing lol. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: I've been coming here for a few years - this is the only team who have managed to get me into a daily flossing habit (after decades of feeling bad about myself). They're so kind and encouraging, and transparent about dental procedures and costs. I've seen several different hygienists at this location, and they've all been top notch. The team at Gentle Dental have genuinely improved my life.

Fantastic experience: I have been under the care of Gentle Dental for a couple of years now, and have been really delighted with all the staff as well as the wonderful dental care, which has been complicated. Olive is an excellent hygienist, and in addition has a wide range of knowledge, being ideal at guiding me through procedures. Sam is an expert, and is great at implementing modern solutions; and the support staff are also really pleasant, helpful, professional, effective and efficient. Fantastic experience: Super quick and efficient - my first dental appointment in over 5 years and the dentist was really professional and good at explaining where my teeth were at health-wise and how he thought I should proceed. Was able to have a discussion and ask all the questions I needed. Reasonably priced and great facilities.

Fantastic experience: My daughter Lola has been in 3 times now and every visit has been exceptional. The receptionists are lovely, the nurses are lovely and the dentist is amazing. They are so kind and patient with the kids and really talk them through each step of the process. There is a tv screen on the ceiling to entertain and calm their nerves and a cute little playroom in the waiting area. Great choice for the kids, especially if they’re feeling nervous.

Fantastic experience: 10/10 would highly recommend Couldn’t be happier with my results! I was pretty hesitant about getting Invisalign, but going ahead—especially with Mike and the team at Gentle Dental—was the best decision I could’ve made. They really listened to what I wanted and made the whole process super easy. I’m so happy with how everything turned out! If you’re thinking about getting orthodontic work done, I’d definitely recommend booking in with them.

Fantastic experience: If I could give Thomas 10 stars I would! Heck give him a thousand! The young man was VERY considerate to my fear of needles and past of improper numbing. He was professional, friendly, and accomodating for my worries from work done in the past. He was extremely patient with me and took every precaution to make sure that I was fully numbed up before drilling, something that puts him well above the rest and puts other dentists to shame! Thankyou again Thomas, and I’ll see you again when you’re not booked out! ( I can see why after my appointment today! )

Negative experience: Bad customer experience here with braces. Will not be going back with second child for braces. Dreadful communication all the way through Appointment bookings and financial side are all in a shambles here. Make sure you keep an eye on what you pay as they do not reconcile your payments properly and try to extract more from you when it's all their mistakes. A real shame as Dr Mike and Dr Ray are both professional and lovely to deal with.

Fantastic experience: Dr Andrew chin and his assistant are fantastic, they made me feel so comfortable during my procedure even asked what Netflix show I wanted on! Will definitely be returning and this will be my new dentist!

Negative experience: This dentist needs to be shut down. It’s clear they are more interested in making money than providing ethical care. When I visited, I received two different price quotes — one from the receptionist and another from the dentist totaling over $180 just for an X-ray, which is absurd. While the high prices are concerning, the real issue is the lack of humanity and transparency from the staff. They treated me as a transaction rather than a person in need of care. Extremely disappointed with the entire experience.

Fantastic experience: Sam is a good and prompt Dentist. Explaining options well and then doing a very good job.

Negative experience: Have had fine experiences here in the past but am frustrated to learn that I should have taken the negative reviews on here more seriously. Went in for a yearly $55 check up - all is well. I was told my permanent wire retainer had popped off one of my teeth (wasn't a bother) and was recommended I pay $65 to get it reattached so I can avoid having to pay $600 sooner to get the full thing replaced if it breaks (which I was told is more likely to happen if it is sticking off one tooth, makes sense). After hearing this I agreed even though $65 was already out from what I could afford, so I signed a contract to pay it a week later. 1-2 days later it pops off the tooth again so I call and reschedule to have it reattached. A few days after that, the wire that was attached to that part of the tooth breaks off. Now I have no choice but to either leave it or pay $600 to get the full thing replaced AND I am still being expected to pay the $65 for the reattachment. J did explain that reattaching the wire can cause it to wear down a bit overtime due to messing around with it in that area however if I had known the glue would have popped off 1-2 days after and then the wire would break, I obviously never would have agreed and signed the contact because what am I benefiting from this and paying $65 for? The way J explained it to me was that getting it reattached was essentially a cheaper way to maintain the wire prior to paying to get the full thing replaced. Very frustrating as I am now being pressured to pay the money for this bs. I have never left a Google review before but I felt I should as this seems to align with other reviews describing feeling pressure to pay for extra services that often don't actually benefit them.

Negative experience: Unfortunately did not have a great experience here! Went in for a cheap, $60 check up only to be told I needed three fillings. I was given my quote at reception for $1200 and was pressured by both the dentist and receptionist to either do them on the spot or at least book them within the next month as they were supposedly 'urgent'. Something didn't feel right about this, so I visited a smaller, more local practice where I was given a comprehensive analysis of my teeth and told I did not need any fillings. Thank god for a second opinion on this! I would totally rather pay more for an initial check up when I know I'm getting a thorough examination from a honest, genuine dentist as appose to getting lured in by a dodgy chain of dentists who try to upsell you.

Fantastic experience: I've had huge dental anxiety, and neglected my teeth for a few years. Andrew, Alex, and Jazz have all been professional, kind, and patient. The reception staff that I didn't get the names of are also excellent. The waiting area is huge, so you can have a nook to yourself if you are one of those types like me, and there's a games room for kids. They also have music, and TVs in the rooms - which I think are welcome distractions for patients. I have a lot less anxiety after seeing them at Gentle Dental Ghuznee, and don't feel the need to avoid booking in the future -like I have with past dentists who are less understanding.

Fantastic experience: I have had two fabulous experiences at Gentle Dental Dixon Street, my most recent being with the wonderful hygienist so would highly recommend especially if you, like me, are a nervous patient.

Fantastic experience: I had huge anxiety around visiting the dentist, I haven't been in years because of this. My hygeniest Sheaynee put me at ease with her gentle and non judgemental manner. I felt so taken care of and encouraged by her and I am very glad I finally decided to sort out my dental needs. Highly recommend

Negative experience: Pricing is not transparent, they try to slyly add costs when you are already getting checked up by suggesting more xrays. My first consultation which was supposed to be 55 dollars ended up being more than 120. I'd gone for a terrible and very painful toothache, instead of offering pain relief, they just went on suggesting different treatments and throwing outrageous quotes at me. Managed to get some antibiotics prescribed for the unbearable pain and never returned.

Negative experience: Disrespect to clients' time is staggering! The wait time for already booked in advance appointment never been less than 15 minutes, 30 on avarage, with the maximum of hour and a half of waiting. I get it, sometimes previous appointment might tike little more time. But not EVERY time!

Fantastic experience: My wife, Dr Anju Basu, and I have been getting all of our dental check-ups, treatments and cleanings from Gentle Dental Centre for many, many years, and we have never ever been disappointed by either their expertise or their top-notch customer care. They have an amazing team at all of their locations, including their front-line staff. Dr Andrew and the hygienist, Ms Sheaynee Pama, at their Ghuznee Centre are both amazing ... highly knowledgeable, very professional in their approach and at the same time fun to interact with. The Ghuznee centre even has parking!! for 2 vehicles and a very clean and big waiting area ... even a place to keep kids entertained, while the they inflict pain on you - Just Joking!! :-) Keep up the good work!!

Positive experience: Sheaynee did an awesome job at cleaning my teeth the first time 6months ago (it was my first time in over 20years going to the dentist ) and today an even better job cos I did my part and flossed Thanks Sheaynee!

Fantastic experience: Clean, professional, modern environment. Just went for a check up and was asked relevant questions re my history and given honest price appraisals re required treatments. Pending treatments, I would recommend. After going back for recommended cleaning and a filling that could be borderline something more, I have experienced nothing but great service and a result that I am very happy with. I was given full knowledge of potential results which enabled an informed decision. I will be going back. We back, right molar removed (stitches are for bi...me). Painless during extraction. Afterwards was also cool, until the drugs wore off. Nothing a bit of Bob Marley and some Pink Floyd wont fix.

Fantastic experience: I am a new patient who had an appointment today after a 20year stint avoiding the dentist, and everything/everyone was astonishingly wonderful. I was understandably nervous and self conscious coming in, but a dental emergency forced my hand so I was grateful that everyone in the practice was reassuring, up-front and accommodating of my nerves, from the phone to the front desk to the dental room. What I thought was an absolute disaster zone was treated and fixed professionally and sensitively by Dr Sam Thompson within about 40mins… I’m amazed. Regular check ups, here I come. So if you’re a nervous person, or ashamed of how long you’ve left your teeth unseen to, i can’t recommend Gentle Dental Ghuznee enough. Chef’s kiss, no notes, see you again in a few months (I promise)

Fantastic experience: My 3rd visit to the Ghuznee St Gentle Dentist over a number of years was with the Hygienist Sheaynee, after my teeth had been cleaned, she showed some of the before and after photos of what she had done for me, the results were amazing. she took time to explain the whole procedure to me, after such a wonderful job I would highly recommend her.

Negative experience: Huge Red Flag! Disorganised. Save your money and your time by going somewhere else. I am incredibly disappointed with their services. I have booked appointments (in person) only for them to turn out to have not been booked. I have been told that I will be called back by several receptionists, only to never be contacted. Negative experience: Quite disappointing actually. My tooth broke and since it was too little of it left for this dentist's liking, I was told to pay thousands for an implant. When I asked for a cheaper option I was told to leave the broken tooth in there. ' You already have a gap so what do you care' was the dentist's advice. I took my records and left that place forever. Any beginner dentist can treat an easy tooth. It takes a specialist to deal with tricky cases. These people like the easy way. Just pay thousands for implants.

Fantastic experience: !!!!!!!!!!!Fantastic support!!!!!!!!!! My elderly father and I needed help beyond the appointment. Moray went well above and beyond for me, and for dad. I really, really appreciate having that support, it's invaluable. A truely wonderful person. All my experiences since 2016 have been very pleasant with all the staff and the services. They have done fantastic work and made it as good as it can get when talking dentistry. Thank You So Much!!!

Positive experience: Good place for your teeth! Usually takes several days or a week to get appointment, not bad. Good waiting area, there's some playing room for your kids. And there's a big tv on the ceiling for us to watch while they do procedure.

He did outstanding work on my teeth and my daughter went to Dr Rehua Smallman for wisdom teeth extractions. Every thing was explained cleary. Negative experience: They used to be good but I suspect they have lured in to many clients with the GrabOne voucher and now struggle to keep up with demand, you’ll be waiting months for a hygienist or dental appointment or they will just put you on there so called cancellation list which never have ideal timings. They also love to wait till your lying in the chair about to begin treatment before they let you know it’s gonna cost extra for x y z, just an example of there cheeky tactics after 12 naïve years I can tell you there are plenty of other far better dental services around town!

Negative experience: Went there as i saw an ad on fb saying comprehensive exam plus x-rays for first visit is $55, and I also double checked the price when I contacted them to book my appointment, but when I went there I ended up paying $103 cuz one of the x-rays was $48 which is quite expensive, they should have mentioned that there might be exceptions when i was checking on the phone, but they didn’t. Also I mentioned in the medical form that I’m pregnant and mentioned it again when I arrived, but the dentist was about to take me an x-ray without using the apron, if I wasn’t aware that taking X-ray while pregnant without any apron is dangerous he would have taken it, though I’ve mentioned twice. The last thing I asked them to email the X-ray images and it’s been long time waiting but they didn’t. So I had to share my negative experience and definitely not going back to that place again.

Positive experience: Wasn’t aware there was a $100 fee for getting a 15 minute consult on braces. Wish this was made more clear to me on the website or when I booked.

Negative experience: Unfortunately I had a negative experience, the staff were nice however the appointment felt rushed and they didn’t investigate my concerns, I ended up the next day at another dentist needing antibiotics and an emergency root canal. I wouldn’t recommend this practice. Although the tv on the ceiling playing friends whilst getting examined was nice …

Fantastic experience: Mike is a bloody good dentist! After going through a constant painful cycle with lumino and forever poor work done by them I decided to give gentle dental a go. I had an absolute horrible pain in one of my teeth and was forever charged by lumino even though the problem was never resolved. I was charged again and again and was forever having to get a filling replaced (on the same tooth) or for them to look and see what the issue was. I gave up after seeing them approximately 6 times for the same tooth. I sore gentle dental had a deal for a exam and x-rays for $55 and thought let's give them a go. I meet Mike and thank god I did. I asked him if he would be able to fix it and he laughed "I would hope so, I am a dentist" and I didn't realize he was a owner which was supper funny at the time because I look back now and go well he is a dentist after all. He took a few x rays and looked at my old records from lumino and could see from the x-rays that every time lumino "fixxed my tooth" there was more and more decay building up under the filling from there poor work. The decay was very very close to the nerve and Mike said there is a good chance he would be able to save the tooth would be very hard due to the amount out tooth lumino had drilled out. He ran through what could happen if after cleaning all the decay out and if it exposed the nerver what would have to happen from there. After cleaning my tooth out and putting in a new filling he managed to save my tooth and the problem has never come back. Mike is a fantastic dentist and it really shows in the work he does. His team is awesome and friendly! The hygienist are also a bunch of awesome people and have allways looked after when I have seen them :) I thought gentle dental would be expensive but I was wrong. They are a local bussiness that is not run by some big cooperate and I have found them to be generally $50-$100 cheaper then lumino and there service is well and above 100%. On top of that I have found gentle dental to be more open, honestly and thorough when it comes to working/looking at my teeth. They show photos of your teeth and x-rays to show you what's happening and what work needs to be done which I really appreciate. I cannot rate the team enough! They are awesome

Fantastic experience: Always been afraid of the dentist due to poor experiences, however, the two times I've been to Gentle Dental they've definitely lived up to their name. It was the most pain free experience I've had, highly recommend!

Negative experience: At the beginning I actually liked them, but the experience gets worse and worse. The receptionist would move my appointment time without telling me, keep getting my appointments timing wrong, or cancelled on the spot with like 5 minutes noticed in advance (had to travel from the Hutt to town and wasted my time and money). The worse part is uncleanness and not transparent pricing. Can't tell what's lies what's not. Especially when the price change the price of what we agree on, it feels like an emotional torture.

Fantastic experience: the most important thing to me is cost over work done. and my dentist jessica was exceptional with listening to exactly what i want and the budget given. this alone was just perfect. but the level of customer care they take really was amazing. super chill, ensured i was comfortable all the way through the procedure. 10/10

Negative experience: Went for a standard check up and got told I needed nearly all my old fillings replaced after a basic x-ray and 20 minute appointment. Not knowing any better, I got 2 fillings replaced, with others scheduled. After getting a second opinion, I was told the 2 that had been done were unnecessary - $700 for nothing essentially, plus inviting more problems in for maintenance down the line. No diagnostic x-rays were done to inform the work, meaning the entire plan was done based off general x-rays. Absolute scam, would have cost thousands of dollars. Go elsewhere.

Negative experience: Was booked into Ghuznee St clinic after experiencing issues with a filling done at the Lambton Clinic. The dentist was rude and by no means reassuring about causes, solutions etc.

For a person with a fear of dental procedures due to bad experiences from the past, my fears were eased after finding the dream team of Harvey and Chris, fabulous Hygienist Terese and the lovely, friendly receptionist Bailee. I’ve had a CEREC crown, root canal and checkups with Harvey and Chris and they were wonderful at easing my fear of pain and anxiety. Talking me through the procedures, and constantly checking I was okay. I can’t speak highly enough of this team and highly recommend them. Thanks guys.” Caroline Bennett

I have always had bad teeth so never wanted to smile with my mouth open but the GDC team worked their magic and now I can’t stop smiling. I had veneers done and they are so perfect you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference, thanks to Sam, Maxie and the team.

Fantastic experience: I got my braces put on for the first time , which I'd started to become a bit anxious about, but Wei and Kennie were an amazing team who worked so well, we're extremely polite, and did an amazing job. The service I've received at Gentle Dental Ghuznee Street this year has been phenomenal, and I've been really impressed by it. Wei and Kennie made me feel super relaxed, and put the braces on in what felt like record time. Often when customers give feedback it's negative, but I'm a firm believer of letting people know when they have done a great job. Thank you very much. Hopefully my smile will be as good as Wei and Kennie's work together!

Fantastic experience: Dentist Mike diagnosed a serious wisdom tooth issue that was actually destroying my jaw bone. Thanks to Mike my jawbone is restored/saved, teeth that could have been lost are now saved and I can eat/smile again. Gentle Dental you are simply THE BEST!!!

Negative experience: I booked in a $45 checkup. Was charged $48 & they tried to add another $50 for an x-ray , their website says 2 x-ray's are included in the price. The entire appointment was less than half an hour , yet it was advised as a comprehensive check-up to take a hour. They did do a good job though.

Fantastic experience: I love Harvey and Chris work. Harvey is one of Best Dentist in Wellington even with in Gentle Dental Center as per my experience.Sincerely thank you for doing Great Job. I hope this massage get to him. Stronglly Recommend him for any Dentist Issue. Well done Harvey and Chris

Negative experience: Went in after experiencing severe toothaches. They showed me that i needed a double root canal, and some other fillings. My first appointment for this was booked in for 2 weeks from now and i was sent away with next to no pain relief for that time. These people don't care for their patients and simply see them as cash cows

Fantastic experience: Fantastic dental clinic. Building on the outside looks a little dodgy and the lift is ancient. But inside the clinic is spotless, modern and the staff are really helpful. Their website shows you to pick and choose dates and times for an appointment. The clinic has got a good collection of toys for the kids and the magazines are current in the wait area.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic dental centre and awesome staff. Shout out to Lavinia with a natural ability to chat away and distract you while you wait. To James, incredible dentist and has made me want to go back. The work he has done was made without any effort when fitting me in for emergency work. His skill, calm approach and ability to comfort through a root canal and wisdom tooth extraction was second to none - thanks again mate!
