Negative experience: Worst Dentist Surgery ever. There's an extremely rude male Asian staff member there, who rudely told me that there was no availability for 2wks for my abscessed tooth. Plus, this dental surgery likes to tell people that they won't do ACC work till the person pays $400 upfront first to get their teeth cleaned first (official complaint was lodged with ACC and claim moved). Dodge practices for a dental surgery and people should be aware.

Fantastic experience: My wife and I have gone to Janette Wilcox for the last 20 years and have always found her work excellent. She always manages to make you feel relaxed and comfortable, combined with friendly staff we have never had any complaints.

Negative experience: Worst service ever! Please accept my negative feedback on your service. First of all, somehow I have been deleted from your system and stopped getting any notifications and reminders about the hygiene cleaning, next, I called you to restore myself in your system, and you promised to call me back the next day and no one calls me back, on the third day I called again and you are telling me the booking is available at the end of May, are you guys kidding me, I hope it is not a May of 2026? Are we living in the 19th century? What's wrong with your service happening? It's a shame.

Negative experience: I had a pretty bad experience here but I thought that maybe it was just me… that is until I booked in at another clinic and realised it wasn’t just me. It actually was a bad experience. I needed a teeth clean. When I went in the dentist said she would clean my teeth and I would need some local anaesthetic.. I thought “that’s weird, I’ve never needed local for a teeth clean before”, but I stupidly didn’t question it. She said because of the local they could only do half of my mouth that day and would need to do the other half another day. AND it would be $250 each visit. So $500 for a teeth clean. I am pregnant and my gums were hurting. I knew I needed a teeth clean and no other dentist could fit me in so I had no choice but to go ahead with it. Despite the local I was feeling pain. The dental assistant was lovely and she could see I was in pain. I was trying to be tough but it was pretty brutal. When I left my mouth bled for another hour and my gums all had visible injuries. I did some googling and think that the dentist gave me a deep clean, which carries risks of infection and is obviously more in depth as they clean under your gums as well. I didn’t realise that is what I had signed up for. It would have been good to know. I decided not to book in for the other half of my mouth and went to a trusted dentist in my home town instead. The dentist in my hometown said my gums weren’t too bad and he did a general clean of my whole mouth, going over some areas the first dentist had missed. The hometown dentist charged me $165 for the whole mouth clean and even without local anaesthetic it was less painful than this place. I regret going to this clinic. I thought maybe I was being a wuss and it wasn’t that bad, but my visit to the second dentist really gave me clarity that this dentist brutalised me and charged me a premium price for it. And that it was also probably unnecessary!

Fantastic experience: Had a dental clean with Olivia and it was the most pleasant dental procedure I’ve had done. She was so friendly and gentle and kept checking in with how I was feeling. Very much recommend and I will be returning next year.

Fantastic experience: Had the best dental experience ever with Evonne and Brittany. The two are so lovely and make you feel so relaxed. Evonne gives painless injections and talks you through what’s she’s doing while in the chair. I liked how she took before, during and after photos of the work she did. I’m a very happy new customer

Negative experience: Trying to charge a 16 year old for a consultation when dental care for under 18s is free in nz, hes an NZ citizen. Never heard of this before.

Fantastic experience: My Husband Vincent and l, are from Australia and NZ. We have had our wonderful Dentist Tim, in Australia for 23 years, After my experience at Nelson dental last Thursday, l now feel very confident that we have a lovely Dentist in Nelson also.I required a filling for tooth loss. Recommended to Nelson Dental 2 days before Easter, Juniaha at reception (l know my spelling of her name will be totally wrong ! ) was very helpful, and spoke to Armani re fitting me in the following day although booked out. Amani and her assistant Kelly were also lovely and very professional. I highly recommend Nelson Dental. Linda Beagley

Fantastic experience: Easily the best dental experience I’ve ever had! Janette ensured I was comfortable and relaxed throughout the procedure and was incredibly accommodating with her schedule to fit me in as an emergency patient. As someone from out of town I would consider travelling to make this my regular dental practice! If I could give 6 - I would!!

Negative experience: My husband went to this dental centre with a broken front tooth and wanting to have work done on his other front teeth. It took 2 months for an appointment to become available. The dentist came up with a convoluted plan involving all his teeth which was to be emailed. Chased the dental centre after two weeks as nothing was received. Two days later, the receptionist telephoned to advise they couldn't do the work. Nearly 3 months and still with a broken tooth. Disappointing.

Negative experience: Went back to the practice after being away from a bit. Not a fan of the new people that are pushy

Fantastic experience: My mother had a terrible toothache and needed an emergency appointment. Despite her language barrier, the staff at the dental clinic were incredibly welcoming and accommodating. We were able to get an appointment for the same day, which was such a relief. The dentist was patient and thorough in his explanations, taking the time to clearly outline the pros and cons of each treatment option. As my mother does not speak English, I had to translate back and forth between the dentist and her. The dentist was very understanding and gave us ample time to communicate effectively. We ultimately had to have a tooth removed, but the process was surprisingly quick. The dentist and his team were attentive to my mother's needs and ensured that she was comfortable throughout the procedure. Most importantly, there were no complications after the extraction, which allowed us to enjoy the rest of our holiday without any dental issues.

Negative experience: I had few visits at the clinic and the dr said I need to have root canal and I am very happy to proceed. The last visit was January this year and he said will contact me once he referred me to an endodontist. But I never heard anything from the clinic ( I even called once to follow up). I visited the clinic at least 3-4 times, have done 2 x-ray and even a 3D x-ray(cost $150), because I really want to get the root canal done. Now I am overseas and having very bad acute pain from this tooth, and probably will spend more on the root canal and crowning since the conditions get worse. So so so disappointed with the Dr and clinic since I thought they will take good care of me.

Fantastic experience: I am from out of the region and unfortunately lost a large part of one of my teeth. I called Nelson dental centre in the hope of an emergency repair. Georgia on reception found me an appointment the next day and two Wonderful ladies, Julie and Kelly worked a miracle to restore my tooth and protect my existing bridge. I thoroughly recommend Nelson dental centre to anyone and would certainly become a regular client if I lived in the nelson region.

Fantastic experience: I have been a patient for 7 years. If you are nervous or have a fear of dentists, Janette is the lady to visit. Janette instantly puts you at ease and gently takes you through the process step by step. Well worth a visit!

Dr Wilcox provided informative and helpful care and was very kind and friendly. Clinic is super clean and relaxing and I have found this a lovely setting. From having to have some emergency work done during the first lockdown, Pierre really looked after me and had continued with some excellent work. Negative experience: The doctor talks with you like you are person who is passing by. No personal attention nor connection, which in my opinion is important. I think everyone likes to feel comfortable and confident in the chair. Well, I didn't... On top of that, I had to pay for a picture of the tooth, but I wasn't even informed WHY I need it, or maybe I already have one? It's a personal situation in this case, but my overall experience was poor..

Fantastic experience: Wow! What a great experience I had with Dr. Alex Munro at the Nelson Dental Centre. Alex was extremely professional, friendly and competent throughout my entire appointment. This was my first time using Alex as my dentist and he made the whole process so easy and painless. Fantastic experience: My previous review of Nelson Dental Centre is below. This edit is in response to Janette's response. Continuing to be a lovely person, Janette personally called me to inquire about my review. We have solved the issue. I certainly appreciate the timely response and the willingness to amend problems. Thank you. First off, Janette is a very lovely person and good at dentistry. Thank you for that positive outcome. Otherwise, I feel I have been taken advantage of. After my first-exam, I scheduled an appointment for a filling. I ask how much this would be and was told around $120 (there is not a price list on there website). After the filling I was told I would receive a reduced price as I had to reschedule once due to over-booking and then wait 30 minutes for the second appointment. My bill came to $200. That was with a $47 reduction. And I opted out for local anesthetic. I asked about this and was told that they must have said pricing starts from $120, which was not what was actually said. Anyway, just a heads up if you choose to use the Nelson Dental Centre.

Fantastic experience: Care shown by all of the staff - receptionists, dental assistants and the dentist. Alex is the best dentist i've ever been too and makes you feel super relaxed - he is also exceptionally good at fillings and I honestly didn't feel the injection at all. I recommend Nelson Dental Centre to everyone I can, it's an outstanding dental clinic :)

Negative experience: Insanely overpriced, I had a quote for $2500 worth of work to be done, I went to another dentist who told me alot of the work was not needed. I've just had three fillings done for $60 in Bali Nelson dental we're going to charge me $769 for the same ones

Positive experience: I went to a new dentist because of the off hand, almost rude manner of the staff on reception every time I visited.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely perfect visit. Two teeth removed without pain. Dentist Simon Wilson is a credit to the Dental profession. Thankyou for your kindness. Even the cost was painless very reasonable. Top notch dental practice.
