Fantastic experience: Had immense tooth pain, and although they were busy they made room for me to be seen. Much appreciated.

Fantastic experience: Recently visted. Suffered from teethache, when most detal centres were fully booked, couldn't fit in, I luckily got a slot here (here was also fully booked, but reception lady was very sympathize with my pain, she booked me in). I was worried about price before I went. But Dr Lamb was very patient to check to avoid any unnecessary costs. Afforable price. Definitely will recommend. Thank you.

Negative experience: Horrible experience after being referred for my daughter from the community dental clinic. Immediately a suggestion of extraction was made - my concerns around how this would be performed on a 4 year old were dismissed and I was told “not to worry about how it will be done”. Wouldn’t recommend going here but unfortunately not many choices in NP when you’ve been referred on

Fantastic experience: I needed a tooth extracted. I became upset and they were very kind. The dental nurse was amazing. The dentist was kind despite my distress. Thank you!

Negative experience: Very rude and racist. Total waste of money and time. I won’t recommend anyone to see them.

Negative experience: This is a review from 2020 . The older experienced dental surgeon here also works for the public hospital. I went on the public waiting list for my four wisdom teeth removal. This was complex so I was put to sleep. Initial x-rays showed I had 3 compacted teeth and one entirely backwards from NPL dental. He told me that he could ‘give it a go’ with removal but having watched this dentist remove one of my friends teeth - I chose to go on the waiting list for public. It was pretty short I was only on there for about eight months . This saved me $10,000 . Unfortunately I had the same dentist at the public hospital for removal. I wound up with four dry sockets after not being told how to look after myself. I had three weeks off work and was in indescribable pain. I was eating painkillers like snacks and had a lot of trouble getting hold of my dentist . I understand that Health services are understaffed but I also ended up with two cracked front teeth and the enamel cracked on my bottom teeth as well. I was very bruised. Having seen previous extractions I understand how my teeth got damaged as he leans on the jaw. my Partner also had this dentist and he went back twice for excruciating pain. The dentist kept telling him there was nothing wrong but as soon as he went to another dentist, it was discovered that he had a crack right down the tooth. it head cost us over $700 by then , and my partner was in weeks of pain for no good reason. I believe that the dentist is just too old now- presumably he does not see well enough , and he certainly shakes. Total grump too. Hopefully people read these reviews before going to new Plymouth dental.

Negative experience: My mouth is still sore from an aggressive teeth clean almost 2 weeks ago. Quoted for a full teeth clean but he only cleaned bottom teeth and he was going to charge the same again for top teeth! Was charged to fix up some lumps in filling he left behind and the filling fell out within a month anyway…which they are going to charge me again for. Poor workman ship. And the dentist is just gross. Pants and belt half hanging off him and his belly pushes into your head the whole time while doing teeth and neck gets sore. Never had problems with the lady dentists that worked there but have now moved on…I wonder why?

Negative experience: The main dentist is rough and aggressive when pulling teeth. Left me with dry socket and ontop of that I still decided to try and return to give them my business but don't bother if you're living out of town and need a winz quote because they outright won't give you a quote over the phone for a simple extraction and would rather extract/extort more cash out of you via a consult. The 3 star overall rating speaks for itself unfortunately.

Fantastic experience: These guys are dental wizards! Phyllis was so accommodating and made booking a time that suite both of us so easy. Antony is a master dentist - gave him a difficult tooth rebuild and he nailed it. Thank you both for making what we all find a bit daunting feel so stress free 10/10

Negative experience: Took my wife here for a filling. Dentist hit a nerve. Did the filling. Dentist was dismissive to my wife and her pain. Three days later she finally convinced him to recheck her. He said that the tooth needed extracting at this stage. Extracted it. Charged her for it. Again, she was in a lot of pain. The receptionist told her that it would hurt because it was and extraction. They did not give any pain relief or anti biotics even though there was evidence of infection from his botched filling job. My wife endured a week of pain and finally managed to get them to see her again. At this stage it turned out to be dry socket. It was also infected now. The dentist cleaned it and prescribed medication. He also charged her yet again for his failures. My wife was now having pain in the tooth next to the extracted site. By this stage we had given up hope of ever getting adequate service from this incompetent and his angry little receptionist. Went to a different dentist who had to extract the tooth next to the extracted one as it was infected and had to now come out. Moral of the story. Stay clear of this cowboy and his side kick. They are nothing but robbing, negligent, narcissistic fools. Complain to the health and disability commisioner and to the dental association as well. If you have had bad service. Dont let them get away with it.

Positive experience: Very good best experience ever

Negative experience: The most disgusting and unprofessional people I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with! I took my 12 year old son in for a tooth extraction, Dr Neville- Lamb proceeded to administer gas without consent, he was extremely rough and shaking all over the place and had him bleeding and choking before the extraction even started, completely ignoring any questions I asked to the point where my son became so upset and agitated I had to ask them to stop, all the while his dental assistant (ANITA THE RECIEPTIONIST posing as a dental assistant) shaking her head and making rude comments under her breathe, he then left the room and insisted I chat with him in the hallway, while I was in the hallway explaining to him that he needed to let me know what he was doing and get my consent before carrying on the dental assistant told my son " I'm sorry she's causing so much trouble for you" and when i came back in the room he was completely freaking out, I didn't realize why at the time until he told me on the way home and he couldn't physically ask her to leave or stop. Constant inappropriate comments like " just relax your not going to get in trouble", most disturbing experience ever, thanks for absolutely traumatizing my son, practices like this need to be regulated it's only a matter of time before they do some real damage if not already, I wouldn't let them near my animals let alone children after what I've seen today. As for the dental assistant she should not be allowed to work with kids!

Negative experience: This dentist isn’t aware of the importance of informed consent, which is particularly concerning given he works with children. Dr Neville-Lamb refused to let my son know that he planned to extract a tooth, even though I a) asked him to explain the plan and seek consent from my son, and b) I offered to talk my son through the plan myself if he wasn’t comfortable having this conversation with him. He was arrogant and dismissive and implied that “mums” get all worked up and that makes the kids worked up. I wasn’t at all worked up, but was clear that he wasn’t going to inflict a surprise extraction on my son. The Dental Council of New Zealand set standards of clinical competence, cultural competence and ethical conduct to be observed by all registered oral health practitioners in New Zealand with a key component to the standards being informed consent. Not gaining informed consent from the minor and/or caregiver is a breach of the Dental Council of New Zealand standards of clinical competence. I feel his behavior breached the HDC Code of Rights (particularly rights 1, 5, 6 & 7) that were established to protect patients. I do not trust this practitioner and would advise other parents to steer clear - although I’m aware we don’t have a lot of choice in New Plymouth currently.

Negative experience: Took my daughter here she was told her teeth were good the dentist n lamb was rough and and not sure what he did but now my daughters tooth is sore has been since the day we left the appointment won't take her back there again

Negative experience: We went there after my son had an accident to his front teeth. He was made to bite down hard on his damaged teeth which made it bleed more. Then we were told he needed his baby teeth stitched back in as they had dropped. So he would have used gas and injections in an already tender mouth. We didn’t feel good about him so we went to get a second review. We were given an X-ray which showed the two baby teeth loose from the gum and were told there is no need to create trauma by stitching when they will fall out anyway. Do not go to this dentist!!!!

Fantastic experience: Today I had an appointment with Dr Samuel Snowden, I have never had a dental experience like this before, he was amazing. I was so anxious prior to the appointment and he made me feel at ease. Ka pai Dr Snowden

Nick Clarke 5 years ago

Negative experience: Terrible experience, I went there for a simple tooth extraction and was given no antibiotics. The next day I was in agony so revisited, three days later I was close to being admitted to hospital as an infection had taken hold. It took four more visits to another dentist to get the infection under control. Three moths later I have to get the tooth beside the one originally removed taken out as the infection killed it. I also have nerve damage in my chin and lower lip resulting in loss of feeling. I found Dr Anthony Neville Lamb arrogant and failed to explain in any way the damage they had caused.

Fantastic experience: Convenient location, good skilled dentist. Thank you Dr Wu

Leah Collingwood 7 years ago

Positive experience: Dr Wu and her assistant were wonderful. They were both very lovely, caring and helpful, would recommend them to anyone. The receptionist on the other hand was not, she needs to work on her customer service skills, because she is bias and judgemental between customers and it shows. Don't think the dentist care where the moneys coming from honey as long as they get paid! If it wasn't for the receptionist I would have gave them 5 stars

Fantastic experience: Experienced dentist . Good job ! Thank you

Negative experience: I would not recommend taking children to Antony Neville Lamb at all! My daughter had already had a traumatic dental experience, and we were referred to NP Dental to get sedation for a tooth extraction. She is now traumatized beyond repair. Not only did he not give sedation he also didnt give gas until too late. He was gruff in manner with her and very physically rough with her. It was not a nice experience for a mother to watch her child go through! The rest of the staff are extremely friendly and nice. Pity about the dentist.

Negative experience: It took 2 hours to get an extraction done , left in excruciating pain. My gums ended up infected so badly half my face was swollen and in much pain. A week and a half later my gum is still sore and I discover they havnt removed all of my tooth, its starting to poke through the side of my gums ! Horrible experience!

Fantastic experience: Friendly and helpful reception. Immediate same day appointment for an emergency extraction. The african dentist was professional, caring, non judgmental and very very gentle. Fees was very reasonable and i would certainly go back and recommend to anyone considering going there.

Fantastic experience: I have used New Plymouth Dental Centre in the past and always had good service. However, today I had to have an emergency extraction. The staff at New Plymouth Dental Centre were exceptional in all regards. They are friendly and efficient and most of all - non judgmental which is a huge factor for me as I had been quite embarrassed for neglecting my teeth for 8 years. I would highly recommend this dentist to anyone.

Lynda Malan 7 years ago

Fantastic experience: On the 18th of April I was holidaying in New Plymouth and suddenly a tooth broke up and I needed emergency treatment. The African dentist who helped me could not have been nicer or more professional. The staff were friendly and although very busy, stayed open late for me fitted me in for this last minute appointment. The charge was more than reasonable and I am very grateful for their care and consideration. Thank you all at New Plymouth Dental Centre.

Negative experience: Terrible experience. The dentist was rude and they charged me a lot of money for nothing. Would not recommend. Would go to a dentist who actually is person centered and has compassion

Negative experience: charged nearly 200 for a 10 minute tooth extraction, I asked the dentist if there were any obvious problems he could see while he was there, he wouldn't comment, instead said come back for a check up. (pay more)

Negative experience: Absolutely terrible! I spent 2 hours I complete agony and 3 hours in hospital!after an inexperienced dentist botched a simple extraction. Thankfully the experts at Taylor dental fixed it in 20 minutes.

Amy Reed 8 years ago

Negative experience: Horrible experience. Staff are rude and i had a new dentist drill into my cheek! While getting a filling done, even tho I was numb I could still feel the drill go into my flesh and had a blood coverd bib. I was very upset and they acted like it happens all the time and fobed me off. I have been coming here most of my life and can say I will never be back !

Fantastic experience: I had a tooth ache and couldn't get checked anywhere until I walked in here and they helped me out straight away. Ever since then they have been my dentists and they are also affordable.
